This little guy was so cute! I took this series of photos just as I was leaving the local park after a long morning of taking photos. I'm calling him William - he's a Willie Wagtail (Rhipidura leucophrys), he was catching bugs about 2m away from me.
I didn't have the right lens on my camera, so I very very slowly changed the lens, hoping he wouldn't fly away and took a photo. The camera makes a beep when it focuses, and I think he was very curious about the sound.
We spent about 10 minutes together, and I took over a hundred photos.. he got closer and closer and closer to me, and I went from standing, to eventually lying on my stomach in the grass, trying to get a really interesting perspective shot. Eventually he came too close for the camera to be able to focus on him, and after a little while without the camera 'chirping' at him, he lost interest and flew away.
The image has a nice depth of field, good colors and nice details. The subject clearly stands out and the expression of the bird is very interesting. It seems to be wondering about something or seems to be asking something from the viewer.
The light in the photo is good and the subject is well lit from all sides. The color balance between the dark and light tones is again ok, without too dark or light parts.
The composition of the photo is good as it doesn't have too many distracting details and lets you immediately focus on the subject.
To sum-up, I consider this an expressive and well-realized photo, and hence the rating. I look forward to your next shots!
